Celebrating Festival of Lights with Colours!
28-Oct-2016 @ GPI Campus

Global Pathways Institute (GPI) had the privilege of witnessing a spring of energy and talent from the children of Bosco Boy’s Home (BBH) and Salaam Balak Trust (SBT) on Friday 28th October 2016, at their Kandivali campus.

Ms. Rouble Nagi nationally and internationally acclaimed artist loves to share the joys of life through art with various groups of society. On the eve of Diwali she did the same magic with eighty two children (BBH & SBT) of the age groups 6-16 years. She has inspired the children to bring out their emotions and guided them to express it with colours. The result was wonderful creation of eighty two art pieces in a span of one hour. It was an Art Mela on GPI campus. There was an instant connect between the children and Ms. Rouble Nagi. There was a free flow of ideas, emotions and imagination in a great festive spirit. The children were in chorus wishing "Happy Diwali" as they displayed their artwork.

Ms. Sumaira Adulali had added value to the celebrations by sensitising the children about sound pollution and its impacts. Children were very inquisitive to understand the sound in their environment and very receptive to the fact that we need to mitigate noise levels especially during Diwali festival. All of them have endorsed the idea that we can celebrate the festival lights without Sound. All the children were one with Ms. Sumaira in saying that sharing joys of life is celebrating life.

GPITES had appreciated and thanked the efforts of Bosco Boys Home and Salam Balak Trust in giving this opportunity to the children. The event has imprinted festive joys and happiness in everyone's heart. The entire credit goes to the positive energy that the children have brought with them and their uninhibited participation in the celebration.

ICC Coastal Cleaning Drive 17th Sept, 2016

GPITES participated in a beach clean-up drive organised by International Coast Cleanup on the 17th of September in observance of annual coastal cleanup day. Coastal cleanup day was established by Ocean Conservancy, an organization that helps to protect the ocean from the challenges it faces. The objective of the beach cleanup was to inculcate consciousness about sensitivity towards the environment we live in. Both freshmen and sophomores enthusiastically volunteered for this cause. After two hours of hard work, the students had picked up tonnes of trash, leaving the littered shoreline clean. It made us aware of our consumer lifestyle after picking up lots of plastic bags and cans thrown carelessly on the beach. As Ganesh Chaturthi had just gotten over, there were lots of broken pieces of idols as well which weren't eco-friendly. A list of all the items collected along with their quantities was made and submitted to ICC. It feels great to give back to the environment and be a part of the world's largest volunteer effort to clean beaches. It was an enjoyable and valuable experience for all those who participated.

GPITES Celebrates Annual Sports Day at Don Bosco Boys Home

The students of GPI rolled out of bed early on August 27th, the second Saturday of their fall classes to head far uptown to the Don Bosco Home for boys to celebrate the eve of Indian National Sports Day. Under the direction of the GPI Student Government's Sports Representative, Kevin Dadrevala, both first and second year GPITES organized football and volleyball tournaments for around 70 boys who stay at Don Bosco's. The boys divided into four teams, who played elimination matches in each sport while DJs spun Hindi and English songs. GPI students served as referees for each match and manned the first aid station. Faculty and staff stood by watching or themselves played in the rain.

After about three hours of play in a steady monsoon downpour, the students and the Don Bosco boys finally rested and refreshed themselves on snacks and juice. The winning team for each sport received a trophy, and each player received a gold, silver, or bronze medal according to their team's place in the tournament. The boys cheered and hugged as they received their trophies from the two priests who run the home and care for them. The runners up received their trophies from Dr. Bibler and Professor Henry. All shook hands and posed together for photographs. The winners have received their trophies from the Principal of Don Bosco Boys Home Father Richard Burkhao Principal and the Administrator Father Lyod Rodrigues.

National Sports Day in India is celebrated on August 29th each year, commemorating the birthday of hockey player Dhyan Chand, who helped India win Olympic Gold Medals in 1928, '32, and '36. Prime Minister Modi commented that the day is meant to celebrate sportsmanship, and the GPI students clearly interpreted sportsmanship as service to the greater community in the northern suburbs of Mumbai. This was the first of several service activities that the GPI students will be engaging in over the coming academic year. Hopefully it is a tradition that will only strengthen as the institution continues to grow.
